South Africa’s rural areas hardly have access to innovative services like grocery delivery apps. So, Siyanda Mthethwa stepped up, decided to improve the lives of South Africans living in rural areas, and create employment opportunities for the youth by founding the mobile app — Kuloola.
Kuloola is South Africa’s first online rural grocery store with a sophisticated navigation app that maps rural households and provides delivery services to households and tuckshops in underserved rural areas. With Kuloola, people living in rural areas can order groceries online either via SMS, WhatsApp, or phone call and get their groceries delivered within 24 hours!
Asides the smooth delivery process, prices are competitive and delivery fees are five times lower than the cost most pay for transportation to the city. So, they get to enjoy quality groceries at a subsidized rate!
Of course, good work doesn’t go without recognition. Because of his amazing work with Kuloola, Mthethwa made it to the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans 2020 list, was an Accenture Rising Star Award winner, and recently bagged the SAB Foundation Social Innovation Award!
